You’re on your way to an important interview – you need to feel calm and confidant but you feel deflated and anxious! What do you do? Maybe our Interview Pump-Up Playlist can help! Click “Read More” to see them!

# 1 Interview Pump-up –

The Ghost of Corporate Future: Regina Spektor

This one is less a “pump up” song and more a “chill out” song. If you’re properly pumped, but still a little nervous, this one is a good choice. It’s comforting and calm and gently trills that people are just people, they shouldn’t make you nervous.

Best Time to Listen: When you’re getting close to going in. Don’t have your earbuds in where anyone at the interview can see you – but maybe just before you go into the building to calm your nerves.

 #2 Interview Pump-up –

Avacado, Baby: Los Campesinos!

Despite the weird title and mildly insane music video culminating in multiple murders, this is an excellent pump-up song. It exudes confidence in a tongue-in-cheek way, with the strange but fitting chorus “Heart of stone, rind so tough it’s crazy, that’s why they call me the avacado, baby.”

Best Time to Listen: When you wake up the morning of the interview, set this as an alarm clock. It helps you to remember to have a thick skin and a sense of humor and that’s a good message to wake up to!

 #3 Interview Pump-up –

Man on a Wire: Garbage

This song is really intense and aggressive. It always gets me pumped up to a ferocious degree – makes me want to fist fight a grizzly bear or something (in a good way). It gets you ready for anything and feeling totally empowered.

Best Time to Listen: On your way to your interview. Driving, riding the bus, riding your bike, walking, showing Jasime a whole new world on your magic carpet, doesn’t matter. This song is best listened to in transit to get you in the pumped-up mindset.

 #4 Interview Pump-up –

Carry On: Manowar

What’s that you say? This list doesn’t have enough 80’s power metal? Don’t worry. I got your back. This song is completely cheesy and oh my lord, also completely awesome for what it is. I challenge you to find a song that will leave you with more energy than this one.

Best Time to Listen: This is another one best listened to in transit. It will have you fidgeting in your seat with anticipation – you can pent that feeling up and go into your interview completely excited and energized.

 #5 Interview Pump-up – Survival: Muse

This song was used in the Olympics to pump up the world’s best athletes. If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for you. It leaves you feeling epic and like you’re struggling through a life-and-death battle for supremacy.

Best Time to Listen: When you’re getting ready. You’ll glace at yourself in the mirror super intensely more than once if you play this song when you’re cleaning yourself up, I can tell you that much.

 #6 Interview Pump-up –

Hello, Hooray: Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper (y’know, the 70’s shock-rock icon) used to sing this every time he started a show to pump both himself and his audience. Bottom line is; he used it in preparation for a performance – you’re preforming for a performance too.

Mr. Cooper doesn’t kid around either, one time his audience was so pumped that they dismembered a life chicken. I’m pretty confidant it can get you pumped for an interview if it can inspire people to randomly murder poultry.

Best time to Listen: Right as your heading out the door. Gets you ready for the world – pumped right out of the gate.

 #7 Interview Pump-up –

The Entire Lord of the Rings Soundtrack: Howard Shore

I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me feeling more confidant than the sensation that I am a hobbit carrying a demonic ring to Mt. Doom. Makes my day feel way more intense, but at the same time less stressful in comparison to Frodo’s problems.

Best time to Listen: Every second of every day on repeat for the rest of your life.

 #8 Interview Pump-up –

You Get What You Give: New Radicals

The 90’s gave us a lot of great things – oh wait no it didn’t, it was terrible, I’m sorry. But this song was pretty good. It makes you want to put effort into things .

Best Time to Listen: When you’re preparing for your interview – researching and preparing follow-up questions, and responses to tough ones they’ll ask you. This song will remind you to give it your all and not slack off.

#9 Interview Pump-up –

Extraordinary Machine: Fiona Apple

This song is quiet yet determined – and deeply competitive (and slightly passive aggressive.) it’s a nice change of pace from the others – slow, and cool, yet still deeply motivating. It’s sort of a slow-and-steady-wins-the-race mentality, and about plodding forward no matter what.

Best Time to Listen: At any point you feel as if you are not as good as your opponents for the position. Play this and be reminded that you are just as good as them.

#10 Interview Pump-up –

Eye of the Tiger: Survivor

I…I’m sorry. I…just am.

Best Time to Listen: Never, (unless you want your life to turn into the best kind of training montage. Which I think you do.)
